Dr. Angela Catena (she/her) is a distinguished expert with over 13 years of experience in mental health, gender equity, and violence prevention. She received her PhD in Counselor Education and Supervision from the University of New Mexico in 2016, with supporting areas in Public Health and Health Education. Upon graduation, Angela accepted a position at Arizona State University (ASU) as a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Counseling and Counseling Psychology Program. During her time at ASU, she served on the Executive Board of the Faculty Women’s Association and ASU’s Advisory Council on Sexual Assault Prevention. As an educator, Angela’s influence is profound. She created pivotal courses related to Intimate Partner Violence and Counseling LGBTQIA+ Individuals and mentored aspiring counselors. In December 2018, Dr. Catena returned to UNM to assume the role of Title IX Coordinator.
