To obtain a Civil Rights Investigator Certification, you will need to attend the whole event. What does this certificate mean? It means that you have tapped into the unparalleled expertise of ATIXA and the other carefully selected experts in the field.

Once the course is completed, you will receive your certification from ATIXA. Certificates for this training event will be provided to you electronically via our Continuing Certification Credit (CCC) program system. A member of our team will be in contact with you via email with instructions on accepting your certification credits in the 7-10 business days following the completion of this course. Brett A. Sokolow, J.D. is a higher education attorney who specializes in high-risk campus health and safety issues. He is recognized as a national leader on campus sexual violence prevention, response and remediation.  He is the founder, president and CEO of The NCHERM Group, LLC, which serves as legal counsel to 35 colleges and universities. Brett is the Executive Director of ATIXA.  He frequently serves as an expert witness on sexual assault and harassment cases, and he has authored twelve books and more than 50 articles on campus safety and sexual assault. The NCHERM Group has consulted with more than 3,000 college campuses. He has provided strategic prevention programs to students at more than 2,000 college and university campuses on sexual misconduct and alcohol. He has authored the conduct codes of more than seventy-five colleges and universities. The ATIXA Model Sexual Misconduct policy serves as the basis for policies at hundreds of colleges and universities across the country. The NCHERM Group has trained the members of more than 700 conduct hearing boards at colleges and universities in North America. ATIXA has certified more than 2,000 school and campus Title IX Coordinators and civil rights investigators. Additionally, Sokolow serves as the Executive Director of NaBITA, the National Behavioral Intervention Team Association, and is a Directorate Body member of the ACPA Commission on Student Conduct and Legal Issues. He serves on the advisory boards of the National Hazing Prevention Collaborative and the NASPA Enough is Enough Campaign. He is a 1993 graduate of the College of William and Mary and a 1997 graduate of the Villanova University School of Law.



Training is from 9:00AM to 5:00PM each day. Registration will begin at 8:30AM.

Training Facility
Frank Stewart Hall in Tucker Student Center (TSC)

The TSC has all modern features built into the facility, including an elevator, wheelchair accessible ramps, and restrooms.

Two large parking lots are located on either side of the Tucker Student Center (TSC). Spots will be blocked off specifically for training attendees. Campus safety officers will be available to show attendees where to park and how to enter the TSC.

Turn at #69 Bridges Gate and head to parking lot #20. TSC is #22.



Charlotte-Douglas International is 45 miles east of the campus and is less than an hour drive.

Greenville-Spartanburg International is 46 miles south of the campus and less than an hour drive.

Ashville, NC Regional is 62 miles northwest of the campus and is about an hour drive.

Train stations

Amtrak has several trains which stop in Charlotte, NC, about 50 miles to the east of the campus. An Amtrak schedule should be consulted due to the number of trains and the time of day/night of their arrival. However, there is no car rental facility at the Charlotte train station.

Personal or university vehicles

The campus is 15 miles north of I-85 at Gaffney, SC and 8 miles southwest of US 74 in Shelby, NC.

Car Rental

The Charlotte-Douglas International Airport has the following car rental agencies: Budget, Alamo, Avis, Enterprise, Hertz and Economy. There is one large exit from the terminal and the car rental agency kiosks are by the exit doors near baggage claim.

Breakfast, Lunch & Snack Breaks

Our host campus will provide a light continental breakfast and afternoon snack break each day. Lunch each day will be on your own.

There are various lunch options within the Tucker Student Center (TSC), such as Mein Bowl (Chinese), Subconnection, Wow Café (hamburgers, wings and chicken strips), and Broad Street Café (coffee, juice and grab-and-go items). The main cafeteria is within walking distance of the TSC and also has a Chick-fil-A Express. Adjacent to campus are Snack Shop (local diner), Italian Garden (Italian and Greek), McDonalds, Hardees, and KFC/Taco Bell. All eateries are within a few minutes walking distance. Japanese, Chinese and Mexican restaurants are also within a short driving distance.


Attire is business casual with an emphasis on casual.  Room temperatures may vary; layers are encouraged.

Electrical Outlets

If wish to use a laptop to take notes, please have your computer fully charged and consider bringing a back-up battery, as there are not enough outlets in the room for individual use. Staff on site will not be available to provide any electrical cords or technological assistance.
