Title IX Hearing Advisors

This course focuses on the skills needed to serve as an effective hearing advisor during the Title IX resolution process and addresses an advisor’s scope and function, including interacting with the hearing chair. Participants will learn how to raise concerns about procedural issues, reduce bias and conflict of interest, and apply the rules of questioning and cross-examination.
This course is useful for advisors chosen by the parties and advisors appointed by the institution. Participants will hone their questioning skills, including cross-examination of the other party and any witnesses and how to navigate appeals.
Advisors can be involved in the entire resolution process, from initial intake to final appeals. This course explains the advisor’s role at every stage, including supportive measures, dismissals, emergency removals, investigations, informal resolutions, hearings, and appeals.
