This course is designed to equip Title IX Coordinators and disability/access administrators with a thorough understanding of the disability laws that regulate an institution’s efforts to offer reasonable accommodations in postsecondary academic environments.

Participants will gain knowledge about the legal frameworks that apply to institutional recipients of federal funding, principles for determining reasonable accommodations, strategies for implementing the process in higher education, the grievance process, best practices in organizational structure, and how the accommodation process can support individuals during pregnancy and related conditions. Advanced ADA/Section 504 for Higher Education

Understand compliance regulations for students and employees with disabilities, including mental health issues, website accessibility, temporary disability, and housing and dining accommodations.

Participants will engage in a variety of engaging, faculty-led applied learning exercises to ensure their understanding of academic accommodations, including those that significantly alter the curriculum. Additionally, they will learn to apply decision-making frameworks in a supportive and legally compliant manner and consider the various ways that institutions should address disability-related grievances. Supporting Pregnancy, Parenting, and Related Conditions Workshop

Gain a comprehensive understanding of the Title IX regulatory requirements and ATIXA’s recommended best practices for accommodating pregnant students, employees, and individuals with pregnancy-related conditions.

Participants will define pregnancy and related conditions, including non-medical childcare needs, lactation, fertility treatments/IVF, adoption, abortion, and miscarriage.

This course is designed to comprehensively introduce the interaction and intersection between disability laws and Title IX compliance and processes. It is aimed at K-12 Title IX Coordinators, disability/access administrators, and other professionals who need to understand the essential disability laws that relate to Title IX regarding student discipline, accommodations, and adjustments.

The course covers the elements required for a well-developed accommodations process and the necessary grievance procedures. It then takes a deep dive into the unique and multi-faceted aspects of how Title IX processes, such as supportive measures, emergency removals, determinations, and sanctioning, may need to interface for students with disabilities.
