ATIXA Meeting with the Office of Regulatory Affairs (OIRA)
ATIXA was able to meet with the Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs (OIRA), the Office of Management and Budget, and the Executive Office of the President to provide input on proposed draft Title IX (sexual harassment) Rule/ “Nondiscrimination on the Basis of Sex in Education Programs or Activities Receiving Federal Financial Assistance.” The OIRA is the United States government’s central authority for the review of executive branch regulations. On April 21, ATIXA presented remarks regarding the Title IX Rule to staffers within OIRA. During the meeting, ATIXA was able to shed light on some of the regulatory burdens that arise from the current Title IX regulations and to ask OIRA to address those concerns in their draft of updated Title IX regulations that is anticipated in the next month. Following the meeting, ATIXA was able to submit supporting documents. All meetings with OIRA are posted for the public, and meeting information can be found here. Originally, the US Department of Education stated their goal of publishing a draft Rule would be in April, but they have a meeting scheduled on May 16 with another group, which might push their April deadline back.
