Overview of 2021 for ATIXA
2021 was a very successful year for ATIXA on the government affairs front! We created our Policy Platform on matters that impact our field and built an effective partnership with the Department of Education by working with the Office for Civil Rights (OCR) on Title IX rulemaking and working with the Office of Postsecondary Education (OPE) on loan repayment deferments for victims of sexual violence. In addition, we secured our home representative, Rep. Madeleine Dean (D-PA), as our sponsor for legislation that would allow victims of sexual violence to receive a loan repayment deferment for up to three years.

Things to look forward to in 2022
ATIXA will continue actively building upon our relationship with the Office for Civil Rights (OCR) in the new year. In addition to that, Rep. Madeleine Dean (D-PA) will be introducing ATIXA-inspired legislation that would allow victims of sexual violence to receive a loan repayment deferment for up to three years. We will also be continuing our work with the Biden Administration to address loan repayment options for victims of sexual violence.
Our goal in 2022 is to make sure that when the Biden Administration and legislators think of Title IX, they think of ATIXA as well. Our government affairs team has positioned ATIXA nicely for 2022, and we will be keeping our membership updated on new policies and legislation as we build on our 2021 government affairs successes.
