Summer Certification Series

ATIXA Announces its 2020 Title IX Summer Certification Series Online

ATIXA, the Association of Title IX Administrators, announces its 2020 Summer Certification Series. The 12-course curriculum has been designed for highly interactive and virtual delivery over a two-week period in June 2020. Registrants can earn up to six valuable ATIXA certifications over the course of this series.

This is the broadest range of Title IX certification training courses you can find, from the primary Title IX industry association that invented Title IX Certification ten years ago. Since 2011, ATIXA’s panel of experts has provided certification to more than 15,000 professionals through our high quality programs. ATIXA certifications are meaningful emblems of the competence of our trainees, who use them to exemplify professionalism, gain new positions, and earn promotions and pay scale advancement.

The Summer Certification Series is the first of its type, offered fully online. Registrants can pursue a combination of certification sessions that feature interactive question and answer forums with faculty, self-guided curriculum, group work, technique mirroring/modeling exercises, mock hearings, role plays, and case study sessions moderated by ATIXA’s experts.

ATIXA leverages sophisticated technology to provide a distance learning and interactive experience that is robust, flexible, highly engaging, and valuable to ATIXA members and the field.

Key components of the 12-course curriculum include the introductory courses, advanced courses, and a new course on the implementation of the new "2020 Title IX Regulations", which is being offered both weeks during this Series. The new regulations require paradigm-shifting changes to achieve compliance, and this course offers essential learning for all Title IX administrators who seek access to ATIXA’s expert breakdown, analysis, and application advice. Several courses are among the most popular, including “Civil Rights Investigator Level One” and “Title IX Coordinator and Administrator Level One.”

In the current environment, ATIXA continues to focus on the needs of its members and certificants through scholarships. If you are interested in a multi-course discount or group pricing, please contact Contact ATIXA (610-644-7858) before registering.

Civil Rights Investigator Level One Training & Certification Course

June 8-9, 2020 11a.m.-6p.m. ET

Level One is our most basic training offering for civil rights investigators, deputies and Title IX Coordinators looking to acquire the fundamental skills necessary to conduct investigations of sexual misconduct in schools and colleges. This training meets the required training mandates of Title IX and VAWA Section 304 for participants, whether you are a full-time investigator or have investigation responsibilities on top of other duties. No one likes to think of themselves as needing basic training, but we generally find that our registrants self-select into trainings that are a level too high for their current understanding.

Good practice rests on solid foundations, and you need those fundamental elements. Attend this training if you are either an inexperienced investigator, have not been trained before, or want to solidify your fundamentals. You’ll walk away from this training with an understanding of the legal underpinnings of Title IX and VAWA Section 304, as well as useful templates, practical rubrics and the key tools of the professional civil rights investigator. ATIXA expects that professional investigators will attend 2-3 of our two-day courses over time to achieve full competence.

504 Coordinator Training & Certification Course

June 10, 2020 11a.m.-6p.m. ET

The U.S. Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights provides the compliance oversight of disability based discrimination under 504 of the Rehabilitation Act. OCR requires that each institution appoint a 504 Coordinator. If you are the Title IX Coordinator, this may be you. The 504 Coordinator does not generally serve as your institutional Disability Services Coordinator; rather, the 504 Coordinator provides oversight of compliance with Section 504/ADA and oversees a grievance processes. These grievance processes are designed to address circumstances of challenge by an individual – faculty, staff or student – dissatisfied with your institution’s disability-based process or response. OCR engages in investigations following a 504-based complaint similar to Title IX investigations. One common requirement that follows the investigation is that the 504 Coordinator provide documentation of training related to Section 504 and ADA, as well as provide a developed policy and grievance process to respond to internal complaints or challenges.

Civil Rights Investigator Level Two Training & Certification Course

June 11-12, 2020 11a.m.-6p.m. ET

Level Two training in an intermediate level of training for those who have some experience as investigators, or who have taken the ATIXA Level One training, previously. This training meets the required training mandates of Title IX and VAWA Section 304 for participants, whether you are a full-time investigator or have investigation responsibilities on top of other duties. In this training, you’ll build on your skill set with more nuanced questioning techniques, a strong focus on record keeping and note-taking, managing complex investigations, and a topical exploration that broadens beyond the sexual misconduct focus of Level One, as the skills of investigating sexual harassment, stalking, and intimate partner (domestic and dating violence) violence are learned. Trauma-informed interviews and addressing pattern/predatory behavior are special topics of focus for this training. There will be a legal update on any new mandates that are timely, but this training is not as law-focused as the Level One training. This training builds strong skills with frequent exercises on questioning, an emphasis on analysis by investigators, and case studies which allow for high levels of interaction and the application of various civil rights investigation techniques.

Title IX Hearing Officer & Decision-Maker Training & Certification Course

June 18-19, 2020 11a.m.-6p.m. ET

The proposed regulations focus heavily on hearings, and while certain aspects of the mandated hearing structure may change, the current administration has made its fondness for hearings well known.

One thing that’s crystal clear? The need for training. Unlike judges and attorneys, who learn on the job, in the courtroom, individuals who facilitate administrative hearings in the educational context do not have this training – and why would you? But more than 200 lawsuits have been filed, criticizing college panel actions and decisions.

Hearing officer training will provide you and your institution with a significant advantage as the regs make their way down the pike. Join us and do a deep dive into the efficacy and efficiency of hearing processes to ensure your procedures are at the vanguard of the industry and are able to withstand scrutiny from the courts.

There are three Certification opportunities for each course offered during the Summer Certification Series Online. We obtain HRCI and SHRM certifications for those in the Human Resources field as well as ATIXA Certifications and Digital Badges.

How do I earn CCCs?
To begin accruing CCCs, you must first be certified (membership is not required). In order to be certified, you must attend a qualifying certification event. Certification events typically occur either at third-party locations (i.e. hotels), at campus-sponsored regional trainings where a number of other campuses also attend, or at this unique online training experience. Qualifying events are labeled as a “Certification Event” in their event descriptions posted online. There is no additional cost to participants to enroll in CCC once you are certified.

Once you have been certified by ATIXA, you can begin accruing CCCs by attending any of our qualifying educational opportunities, either live or online. To maintain your certification, you will need to accrue twelve (12) credits every two years. CCCs expire two years after earning them because the field is ever-changing and the laws, guidance and court decisions necessitate frequent and consistent professional development.

What is a digital badging?

It’s now easier than ever to share your achievements and credentials! In addition to the certificates of completion provided by ATIXA following a certifying event, we also offer personalized badges issued through our partner, Accredible.

These digital credentials allow users to present a rich and trustworthy record of their learning to anyone at any time. One of the greatest advantages is the ease at which they can be shared onto social platforms like LinkedIn, Twitter, and Facebook, as well as shared organically via inclusion in one’s email signature.

Yes! In these extraordinary times, we have made the decision to cancel the in-person Denver hotel Training & Certification event and create this Summer Certification Series Online training event instead.

All those attendees that were previously registered for Denver, have been moved over into the Summer Certification Series.
