K-12 Decision-Maker Training & Certification Course

October 13, 2020
11:00am-6:00pm ET

One of the primary functions of the lawyers, judges, expert witnesses, and jury instructions is to provide guidance to the jury on how it should analyze a case. That’s training, it just happens on the job, in the courtroom. ATIXA’s approach provides the key skills decision-makers need to serve this role proficiently in a college hearing environment.

This training will benefit K-12 decision-makers, too, especially in schools and districts where hearing models are used (and for suspension/expulsion, all public K-12 schools must provide hearings). Some of the content on live cross-examination won’t likely be applicable in every district, but most of the other content about questioning, relevance, and solid decision-making will be very beneficial.

Civil Rights Investigator Level One Training & Certification Course

October 13-14, 2020
11:00am-6:00pm ET Both Days

Level One is our most basic training offering for civil rights investigators, deputies and Title IX Coordinators looking to acquire the fundamental skills necessary to conduct investigations of sexual misconduct in schools and colleges. This training meets the required training mandates of Title IX and VAWA Section 304 for participants, whether you are a full-time investigator or have investigation responsibilities on top of other duties. No one likes to think of themselves as needing basic training, but we generally find that our registrants self-select into trainings that are a level too high for their current understanding. Good practice rests on solid foundations, and you need those fundamental elements. Attend this training if you are either an inexperienced investigator, have not been trained before, or want to solidify your fundamentals. You’ll walk away from this training with an understanding of the legal underpinnings of Title IX and VAWA Section 304, as well as useful templates, practical rubrics and the key tools of the professional civil rights investigator. ATIXA expects that professional investigators will attend 2-3 of our courses over time to achieve full competence.

504/ADA Coordinator Training & Certification Course

October 15, 2020
11:00am-6:00pm ET

The U.S. Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights provides the compliance oversight of disability based discrimination under 504 of the Rehabilitation Act. OCR requires that each institution appoint a 504 Coordinator. If you are the Title IX Coordinator, this may be you. The 504 Coordinator does not generally serve as your institutional Disability Services Coordinator; rather, the 504 Coordinator provides oversight of compliance with Section 504/ADA and oversees a grievance processes. These grievance processes are designed to address circumstances of challenge by an individual – faculty, staff or student – dissatisfied with your institution’s disability-based process or response. OCR engages in investigations following a 504-based complaint similar to Title IX investigations. One common requirement that follows the investigation is that the 504 Coordinator provide documentation of training related to Section 504 and ADA, as well as provide a developed policy and grievance process to respond to internal complaints or challenges.

Certification from ATIXA isn’t required, legally, but it has become the emblem of Title IX professionalism throughout the education field. ATIXA isn’t a credentialing agency, but we’re widely recognized for our industry leadership and Title IX expertise. While any training can check a box, Certification from ATIXA represents a dedication to excellence in professional development. In fact, the ATIXA Certification is so widely recognized and valued that 30,000 have been obtained since 2012. Those who have earned ATIXA Certification proudly advertise it on their resumes and through our digital badging program. Many job listings in the field indicate that ATIXA Certification is required or preferred. More importantly, ATIXA Certification holders have the right to proclaim that they have attained the rigorous learning outcomes that ATIXA establishes for every Certification Course. ATIXA now offers nineteen (19) different course tracks, giving us the most comprehensive offering in the field.
