ATIXA 5000 Member Spotlight

Founded in 2011, ATIXA’s mission is to provide a professional association for school and college Title IX Administrators who are interested in serving their schools and districts more effectively. Now entering our tenth year, ATIXA has grown to serve thousands of members across the nation, and continues to be the primary source for training and certification to school and campus Title IX administrators. We are excited to share that as we approach that 10 year anniversary,  ATIXA has reached an exciting milestone of 5,000 Members! To celebrate this achievement and our tenth year, ATIXA will first highlight a group of members that joined recently and helped to push us to this exciting milestone! From there, ATIXA will select a member each week who will also share their struggles and successes working in the field of Title IX and what being a member of ATIXA means to them. Each and every one of our members has helped to make ATIXA what it is today and we are excited to celebrate the supportive community that we have built together!

Title IX Coordinator & EEO Officer

What is a challenge you face doing Title IX work? Conducting a prompt process with budgetary restrictions and administrative support restraints.

What is a successful achievement you have had doing Title IX work? Expanding our program so people are aware of how to report, resources and how to give feedback. Each year I make sure everyone is aware of what Title IX is and what Title IX does. A few years back half of our population could not tell you what it was or why it is important.

What is an ATIXA resource or tool that has aided you? The ATIXA listserv has been the most vital tool to be able to solicit almost immediate feedback about any issues or topics. It is also reassuring to know I am not alone in doing this work.

What is the value of ATIXA membership for you? I had us switch from an Individual membership to a Super membership. The value of the product is there. Successfully implementing the Title IX Regulations would not have been possible without the ATIXA membership. The Super membership allowed access to all new guides, team training, IX and Wines, 20 minutes to train videos and a library of resources.

How has ATIXA helped you to be a better professional? ATIXA has really given me the confidence to do my job. There were times that I might have doubted some of my thoughts or I would not take up for myself. ATIXA professionals gave me the confidence to get the resources I needed and that I was capable of doing the work.

What is one way you practice self-care doing such intense work? Actually, ATIXA has been a form of self-care. Being able to connect with other professionals, vent, and seek advice about common issues have been very helpful. Some of the IX and wines had me laughing so much that it took way the feeling of me being overwhelmed during the learning and implementation phase.

What is one piece of advice you would offer your fellow practitioners? You have to do this profession because you love it and you care. Never stop advocating for others, equity, self, and resources.

What is a challenge you face doing Title IX work? Funding & the complexity of the new regulatory demands

What is a successful achievement you have had doing Title IX work? While a systematic overhaul of policy, procedures, resources, and response mechanisms is never easy, it is possible and is something I’m hopefully in the middle of achieving again, for a new institution.

What is the value of ATIXA membership for you?ATIXA enables me to do this work. I can’t imagine, nor would ever accept, a Title IX position that did not provide membership with this group.

How has ATIXA helped you to be a better professional? Training, networking, and collaboration with both peers and the ATIXA partners.

What is one way you practice self-care doing such intense work? Reading and long walks with my spouse.

What is one piece of advice you would offer your fellow practitioners? Know that you’re not alone in your struggles and that there are peers nationwide (especially ATIXA members) who are incredibly supportive and generous with their time and resources. Don’t be afraid to ask. Don’t be afraid to connect.

Associate Vice President of Student Success and Engagement

What is a challenge you face doing Title IX work? As a small, growing college with a specialized mission, we are determined to ensure that the protections afforded under Title IX are available and enforced for all. Certainly, the recently authorized changes in Title IX will demand particular attention to these reforms.

What is a successful achievement you have had doing Title IX work? Beacon has applied the standards of Title IX under the pre-August 14th regulations without significant issues. However, the new provisions will require that we rely on both the informational and investigative resources available in the higher education community.

Why did you become a member of ATIXA? We are looking forward to ATIXA membership as a core platform for ensuring that all personnel are well-informed and trained on an updated basis. We intend to use the full range of training, mentored document development, and networking resources!

What is one way you practice self-care doing such intense work? I exercise regularly, meditate, read, and enjoy time outdoors with my dog.

What is one piece of advice you would offer your fellow practitioners? Be convicted in your work and seek the counsel of others of good judgment when uncertain.

Vice President of Human Resources/Assistant Superintendent

What is an ATIXA resource or tool that has aided you? The member library is very comprehensive. This resource offers significant information for those who are new coming into the Title IX role and seasoned employees. Similarly, the variety of training can accommodate all knowledge and skill levels.

What is the value of ATIXA membership for you? There are three values I can identify for holding an ATIXA membership: 1. Easy access to current Title IX information, including regulations. 2. Access to quality training, resources, and presenters. 3. Opportunity to learn from others in the field and find better practices.

Why did you become a member of ATIXA? Several members of our institution attended Title IX trainings from various vendors. After comparing the quality of training, the feedback from these employees clearly demonstrated that ATIXA’s training was on the top of the list with regards to content, resources, and presenters. ATIXA keeps up with current changes and has very qualified staff to support and guide their customers.

We have experienced changes in leadership at the institution and we have relied on ATIXA’s training to bring our new staff up to speed on Title IX information. We believe ATIXA is the leader in Title IX training and resources provider. In addition, their network of Title IX administrators opens the door for collaboration and dialog. It is a great place to learn about better business practices.

We became members of ATIXA for the above-stated reasons and we will continue to rely on their knowledge and expertise to support our commitment to gender equity in education.
