This one-day course, Title VI Compliance Foundations, provides an in-depth examination of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, which prohibits discrimination based on race, color, and national origin in programs and activities receiving federal financial assistance. The course focuses on the application of Title VI in educational settings, exploring its implications for school districts, colleges, and universities. Expert faculty will explore compliance requirements, policy development, and enforcement mechanisms to ensure educational equity in alignment with these laws. Key topics include the scope of Title VI, the role of the U.S. Department of Education Office for Civil Rights (OCR), policy development, procedures for handling complaints, and recent OCR resolution agreements.

Pre-learning will be available to the course participants when the ATIXA Event Lobby opens 5 days before the start of the course.

After completing this training, participants will be able to:

  • Explain the legal framework and scope of Title VI in educational settings

  • Explain the role of the Title VI Coordinator at each phase of the Resolution Process from intake through appeal
  • Apply ATIXA’s recommended Resolution Process to Title VI complaints
  • Identify strategies to prevent Title VI violations through prevention education, training, policy revision, and community outreach, reducing the need for formal complaints
  • Explore how to collaborate with students, administrators, faculty, staff, and external entities to address and resolve Title VI-related issues while enhancing institutional accountability

To obtain certification from ATIXA, you will need to sign-in to your Event Lobby each day of training and attend the whole event. It is our expectation that you are present for the entire duration of your training course. Certification will only be provided once ATIXA has verified attendance through the Event Lobby.

Please allow 7-10 days following the completion of the course and then log in on our website and visit the My ATIXA page to access the Continuing Certification Credit (CCC) program system. Please follow the instructions on the webpage to obtain your certification. Our CCC program allows those certified by ATIXA to track, maintain, and extend their professional development through our programs.
