Former transgender college student’s Title IX complaint will be investigated by the US Dept. of Ed. according to The Hill
The Hill reports that the US Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights (OCR) said it would be launching a Title IX investigation into Lincoln Christian University in Illinois following a complaint from a former student. The complaint, filed by Religious Exemption Accountability Project (REAP), claims Kalie Hargrove, an openly transgender woman and former LCU student, was discriminated against by the university based on her gender identity by “directing her either to withdraw from classes or face discipline because she publicly identified as transgender.” The lawsuit and the Department’s investigation are part of a larger effort to overturn current religious Title IX exemptions.
